Mahan Family Wines Speakeasy inspired Wine Bar featured in Forbes

Maybe know our story…

After watching the Dennis Quaid version of The Parent Trap too many times with our children, we started dreaming of owning our own vineyard. Taking a side-trip from a family ski-vacation in Lake Tahoe in 2001 only deepened the dream. BUT it had to be parked for 20 years.

A birthday vacation-trip to Europe helped dust off the dream. We started looking at how to stay active & relevant, in our “golden years” of retirement. We didn’t really know how “active” an active-retirement would be.

We had to do a full-immersion to realize the dream, we had to just figure it out. If you have passion for a project, you need to let that passion carry you through, otherwise it just might fizzle out.

Phil returned to college at UC-Davis to credentialize his winemaking skills in 2016.

Ann left her career in corporate-America in 2019 to wrestle all the regulatory nonsense necessary to pull it all together.

Phil tricked Ann into planting over 4100 grapes plants, that are the backbone of their award-winning wine.

We opened the doors to the speakeasy Valentine’s Day weekend in 2022.

Very shortly after, many of you became treasured friends & some of our first Wine Club Members. Thank you!

We would like to thank Jeanette Hurt and Forbes for featuring Mahan Family Wines in their recent article. We are truly grateful to share our story and wine with the Forbes community. See below to see or listen to our story come to life.
